The sea is one of the constant motifs in her work. In it, she finds a particular opportunity to work with light; on the water, in the sky, along the distant line of the horizon. These natural states become the basis for compositions in which colour gradually displaces narrative and becomes a way into revealing something more personal – a striving towards contemplation, balance and purity.

In her artistic world, nature is neither backdrop nor perspectival view or panoramic vista, but the creation of another visibility, one she turns into a space for reflection; a space for wandering through the boundlessness of landscape, within which the sea becomes a kind of window onto the world: changeable, luminous, and always different depending on the hour, the weather and the gaze.

This is precisely where the particular appeal of Hristina Hristova’s painting lies – it does not insist on a single reading. Her paintings allow the viewer to stand before them for as long as it takes to find their own experience, and also to ask themselves questions such as: Are there horizons we are not meant to reach, only to contemplate? Is it enough for us to believe that somewhere out there, on the border between sky and sea, beyond the visible, infinity creates other worlds?

This exhibition marks an important stage and an occasion for reflection in the artist’s creative path. It brings together years of accumulated experience, a refined sensitivity to colour, and her enduring love of the maritime theme. An invitation to shared solitude — a redemptive space in which the horizon does not divide but gathers spaces together, and stills the clamour of our human lives.

* Excerpt from Petya Dubarova’s poem The Sky, translated from the Bulgarian by Joanna Bradshaw

—

Hristina Hristova was born on 12 January 1966. In 1985 she graduated in Design from the art school in Kazanlak (today the “Acad. Dechko Uzunov” National School of Fine Arts and Design). Her art education continued after graduation: between 1985 and 1990 she took courses in drawing under Stoyan Donev and in painting under Prof. Vihroni Popnedelev.

This period played an important part in shaping her approach to the visual process — to observation, composition, and the potential of colour as an independent bearer of mood.

In June 2015 Hristina Hristova presented her work at the Ivan Milev Hall in Kazanlak. In December of the same year she took part in an exhibition at Finesse Gallery in Sofia, and in February 2016 her work was shown at the Boris Hristov House of Culture in Plovdiv.

["post-9802","exhibition","type-exhibition","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
